The NFL world has reacted with sadness to the death of Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, at the age of 82.
Pelé, a Brazilian soccer player, died from colon cancer. He was in the hospital for a month after a lengthy battle with the disease. His death was announced on Thursday afternoon.
Pele is the only footballer to ever win three World Cups. He did so in 1958, 1962 and 1970. Widely recognized as one of the greatest players of all time, the entire sports world mourned the death of a football legend, comparing him to other legends who created their own legacies.

Pele spent most of his career playing with the legendary number 10 shirt for Santos Futebol Clube, one of the biggest clubs in Brazil. After almost 20 years and scoring more than 1,000 goals during his career, he moved to the United States to play for the New York Cosmos.
He is part of the discussion about the greatest player of all time with legends such as Messi, Tom Brady, Michael Jordan and many other incredible athletes we've been lucky to witness throughout the years. His impact on soccer all over the world is impossible to measure, just like his talent, which is why many sports fans are saddened by his death.
He was also a huge fan of Tom Brady. A lot of "good luck" messages were sent the quarterback's way during his career. They were together at many opportunities when Brady was married to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
How did Pele died?
He battled against colon cancer since August 2021, but at the start of December, Hospital Albert Einstein declared that he was unresponsive to the chemotherapy treatment and that he had been replaced on palliative treatment. The football legend spent the final month of his life hospitalized and surrounded by his family.
Pele's health has been a topic of discussion for a while. He had his right kidney removed back in 1977, but the news was kept a secret until a few years ago. He also had to face two different surgeries because of a hip problem and did not appear at the World Cups of 2018 and 2022.
He received a touching tribute from FIFA during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
We here at Sportskeeda send our condolences to Pele's family, friends, and all of his fans around the world. Rest in peace, Pele.
