In his career as a cornerback and a defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn has seen it all. So it resonates all the more when the Detroit Lions DC complimented Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. As he prepares to face the rookie QB this weekend, Glenn told reporters:
"Even when he doesn’t make plays, he’s having fun playing the game. I think that’s one of the reasons he’s so successful."
Aaron Glenn also thinks the calm manner Jayden Daniels approaches the quarterback position has helped him achieve this level of success in his first season:
"His demeanor and how calm he is, it pops out, all over the TV copy, when you watch the TV copy. Another thing that pops out is he’s having fun playing this game, which we all should. But you can tell he’s having fun, and there’s no better way to play this game but when you’re having fun."

The No. 1 NFC seed Lions enter this game as heavy favorites but will have their hands full against the No. 6 seed Washington Commanders. Jayden Daniels has excelled since being selected second overall in the draft.
He surpassed the NFL rookie rushing record by a quarterback previously held by Robert Griffin III by recording 891 yards on the ground this season. With Daniels running the show, the Commanders have the fifth-best offense based on yards this season.
While still winning games, Aaron Glenn's side of the football has been ravaged by injuries. Cornerback Carlton Davis, linebacker Derrick Barnes, and star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson have all been on injured reserve for most of the season and will miss this game. Glenn will have to make do with his patchwork defense and hope his secondary holds up against the likes of Terry McLaurin and Jayden Daniels.
Lions DC Aaron Glenn's head coaching interviews ahead of Commanders game
While his focus is on the Commanders game, Glenn has spent the bye week interviewing for vacant head coaching opportunities. Glenn interviewed with the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars while turning down an interview with the New England Patriots that eventually went to Mike Vrabel.
Aaron Glenn has kept his eyes on the upcoming game and had this takeaway when returning to Lions’ practice:
"The one thing that I get out of all these interviews is, man, I’m going to be myself and either you like it or you don’t. If you don’t, all good. I keep telling you guys, I have a great job here. And if you like it, if it’s an opportunity that I think is best for me and my family, then we’ll take a look at it.
"But had a really good time over the bye week looking at those but now we’re all locked in ready to go and play this game against Washington."
It will be interesting to see if the Lions can live up to the hype and advance, and whether Glenn will remain in Detroit after the playoffs.
