“Mac Jones could never”: Patriots fans impressed with rookie Drake Maye’s viral deep-ball throw in training camp

Drake Maye has set his sights on the starting lineup and the hearts of the Patriots faithful. The New England Patriots picked Maye as the 3rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to replace Mac Jones and fans are already swooning over the rookie’s skills.

On the first day’s training, Maye found a wide-open Jalen Reagor, and threw a deep ball to him, which ended up in one hand of Reagor for a TD. With this tremendous deep-ball throw on the first day of the training camp, the fans have already declared him to be better than Jones and an ideal candidate to become the starter straight away.

“CLIP OF THE DAY: Patriots QB Drake Maye goes DEEP and finds wide open WR Jalen Reagor with the 1-HANDED GRAB! WOW.”

The Patriots fans couldn’t help but compare their past and future.

“Mac Jones could never, nor could Zappe or Brisett,” one fan said.

“Biggest difference between Mac and Maye is that Maye makes deep throws look effortless,” another fan said.

Apart from comparisons, the Patriots fans showed their appreciation for this play and the game-reading abilities of Drake Maye.

“Inject it into my veins,” one fan said.

“Dang Drake makes that throw look easy,” another fan said.

Some even called out the Patriots’ OC who suggested that Maye might not be the automatic starter for them in the beginning.

“Start him on week 1,” one fan said.

“Start the kid!” another fan said.

Tom Brady has advice for Drake Maye

Since Tom Brady left the Patriots in 2020, the franchise has unsuccessfully tried to replace him with a couple of QBs. The seven-time Super Bowl winner shared his advice for Drake Maye in an interview with Yahoo Sports last month.

“I'm very fortunate to be around him, and I like him a lot”, said Brady. “I’ve heard great things about him. But his opportunity is really going to be what he makes of it, and how he wants to develop it,”

Maye will have the chance to learn and show his talents more. The training camp will conclude on August 13 with a joint practice session with the Philadelphia Eagles.
