The wait is over. Christian McCaffrey is the official Madden 25 cover star, EA Sports announced Tuesday. The gaming giants named the San Francisco 49ers superstar as their latest cover star with a post on X that had the fans talking.

Christian McCaffrey is the sixth running back to grace the Madden Cover

Christian McCaffrey is the sixth running back and the first since Adrian Peterson to grace the Madden cover. He joins the likes of Eddie George, Marshall Faulk, Shaun Alexander, and Peyton Hillis.

Furthermore, Christian McCaffrey is the first San Francisco 49ers player to grace the Madden cover. McCaffrey is the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, so he's viewed by many as deserving of the honor.

Is the Madden curse real?

For years now, there have been rumors of a Madden curse. It is said that the curse befalls cover stars, and they'll put up subpar or injury-ridden seasons after being placed on the cover of the video gaming franchise.

There have been cases that support the belief of a curse. Such cases include Daunte Culpepper missing six games after gracing the Madden cover, Michael Vick fracturing his fibula less than a week after the game's release, Shaun Alexander dropping from 1,880 to 896 rushing yards, and Antonio Brown going from a career year to becoming a journeyman.

However, the past five Madden cover stars have had solid seasons, which basically nullifies the existence of a curse. Patrick Mahomes ×2, Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady, and Josh Allen have recorded phenomenal seasons after gracing the Madden cover.

Hence, Christian McCaffrey fans don't need to worry too much about the alleged Madden curse. The perennial Pro Bowler should enjoy a stellar season, barring any injuries in Kyle Shanahan's patented offense.
