Matthew Stafford gave the Los Angeles Rams a Super Bowl. However, he also gave the team their worst winning percentage since before the Sean McVay era. Of course, injuries were the true culprit, but the quarterback's contract remains unaffected either way.

According to ESPN's Field Yates via Bleacher Report, the Rams quarterback will earn $30 million courtesy of a contract extension signed last offseason. This is in addition to already getting guaranteed $57 million for being on the team's roster on March 17. The $57 million will be split between this year and next year.

Will Matthew Stafford finish over .500 in 2023?

The quarterback is making big money now, but how long will it last? Here's a look at for how long the quarterback is covered on his current deal. His new deal started in 2022 and runs through the end of 2026. When the contract ends, the quarterback will enter the NFL season as a 39-year-old, per Spotrac.

The deal was worth up to $160 million in potential money. It carried a $60 million signing bonus and an average salary of $40 million, with $63 million guaranteed at signing and $130 million guaranteed overall. The dead cap situation is truly what will keep the quarterback around over the long haul.

Should the Rams move on from Stafford in 2023, they'd incur costs of $111 million compared to a $20 million cap hit. However, there is a window in which the team could move on from Stafford before the contract expires. The team could cut ties with him one year early (after the 2025 season) and save about $31 million.

Of course, that is a long way from 2023 in NFL years. Rams fans hope to see a healthy Stafford return to form in 2023, resuming his run of domination from 2021.

In his Super Bowl-winning season, Stafford threw for 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. The following year, he threw for 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
