Melvin Gordon's fantasy outlook & injury update for Week 9 of the NFL Season 

Melvin Gordon is currently the leader of the ever-evolving backfield at the Denver Broncos this season. Following Javonte Williams' ACL tear, Gordon was expected to be a huge fantasy earner, however, that has not transpired. The Broncos picked up Latavius Murray from the New Orleans Saints' practice squad and he has taken a good volume of their carries. To compound Gordon's troubles, Denver picked up Chase Edmonds in a trade from the Miami Dolphins.

Gordon has been getting more touches since the disastrous Week 6 matchup against his former side, the Los Angeles Chargers. Even though the signing of Edmonds is a concern for fantasy owners, it looks like Gordon is back in Nathaniel Hackett's good graces.

Melvin Gordon had a solid game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. He contributed one rushing touchdown in the Broncos' 21-17 win, which snapped a four-game losing streak. The game highlighted just how good he could be when allowed to lead a unit, but whether Hackett continues to trust him remains to be seen.

At the moment, Gordon is the Denver Broncos' number one running back, which was confirmed by the franchise following the arrival of Edmonds. The issue is that with three backs splitting carries, fantasy points are split three ways as well.

Fantasy team owners should wait and see what happens in Denver. Melvin Gordon hasn't been efficient recently, and there's not much optimism for his future outlook.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with starting Gordon in a pinch, but only after you have explored all other options. With the Broncos' acquisition of Chase Edmonds, Gordon will have to improve his production on the chances he gets if he is to stay relevant.

Denver Broncos general manager George Paton said on Tuesday that Gordon is still the Denver Broncos' starting running back. This is despite the Broncos acquiring Chase Edmonds in the Bradley Chubb trade with the Miami Dolphins. This news bodes well for Gordon's NFL fantasy league owners, as more snaps mean more points.

Melvin Gordon has accumulated 263 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns along with 138 receiving yards in a disappointing first half of the campaign. He is ranked as the 41st best performing running back in NFL fantasy.
