After a dominant display in their 33-17 win on the road against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, the Dallas Cowboys were expected to dispatch the New Orleans Saints with authority in Week 2 in their home opener. However, they were given a brutal reality check as the visitors trounced them 44-19 at the AT&T Stadium.

Dak Prescott had a day to forget. He completed 27 of his 39 pass attempts for 293 yards and a touchdown, and tossed two interceptions. The Dallas offense also turned over the ball on downs twice.

The quarterback was heavily critiqued for his performance on social media, but star pass rusher Micah Parsons absolved him of any blame for the blowout loss. On the latest episode of The Edge podcast, the linebacker said:

"I keep telling you guys, complimentary football is so big. NFL special teams has to be clicking. Offense has to be clicking. Defense has to be clicking. We just weren't clicking defensively. I thought Dak played a really good game, and we did not help our quarterback."

The Cowboys' defense couldn't contain the Saints in the air or on the ground. Quarterback Derek Carr threw only 16 passes but completed 11 for 243 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Running back Alvin Kamara rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns. He was ably supported by Jamaal Williams, who carried the ball eight times for 39 yards. The defense's inability to stop the Saints from scoring a touchdown in each of their first six drives proved to be too much to cope with for the Cowboys' offense.

Dak Prescott claims Cowboys need to learn from loss

Prescott did not point fingers after the defeat and was reflective in his reaction to the loss. During the post-game press conference, he said:

"We're gonna learn from it. That was a good team. Gotta give them credit. This is the NFL… It's about trusting the process and responding. I know we have the guys to do that. Honestly excited to get back to work and turn this page."

The Cowboys will be at home again in Week 3 and will host the Baltimore Ravens, who also suffered a shock loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
