On Friday, the Dallas Cowboys officially unveiled the franchise's new head coach. Brian Schottenheimer, their offensive coordinator in the 2024 season, has been promoted to the job after Mike McCarthy did not extend his contract. He signed a four-year contract.

Brian Schottenheimer's hire was met with skepticism across NFL circles. With the Dallas Cowboys being the NFC team with the longest conference championship drought, not reaching this phase since the 1995 season, the promotion of Schottenheimer felt like a conservative move by the franchise.

After news of the new head coach broke, superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons posted a cryptic video on his TikTok. NFL fans interpreted this as a sign that he was unsatisfied with his new leader, and combined with the franchise's lack of success, was looking to leave the Cowboys:

"Bro tired of not making it to NFC championship. Parsons about to hit the trade market streets faster than a curry jersey", said one fan.
"Guess he is leaving?" It sounds like the music they play on the abandoned mansions", said another.
"Noooo I just took a photo with him, I hope he doesn’t leave now", a Cowboys fan said.

NFL fans and analysts were hoping to see a more aggressive hire to change things in Dallas, especially as the owner disappointed badly in 2024. Jerry Jones said he would go "all-in" to try and win a championship, but after a turbulent offseason, the team finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs by a long margin.

Marty Schottenheimer, father of Cowboys head coach Brian, was a successful NFL head coach

Brian is officially on his first job in the league as a head coach, but his family has a huge history in the NFL. His father, Marty, was a historical figure in the sport, both as a player and a head coach.

During his playing career, as a linebacker, he won the AFL Championship in 1965, the final season before the NFL instituted the Super Bowl. Later, he held the head coach title in four teams: Cleveland Browns (1984-1988), Kansas City Chiefs (1989-1998), Washington Commanders (2001) and Los Angeles Chargers (2002-2006).

He held an impressive 200-126-1 record in the league as a head coach, but he's notable for many playoff failures, with a 5-13 record in the postseason during 21 years.
