The Dallas Cowboys have filled their coaching vacancy after allowing Mike McCarthy to leave and not renew his contract. There were rumors swirling that Jerry Jones was interested in hiring former Dallas Cowboys star and current Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders, and Sanders reportedly would have taken the job. However, the Cowboys instead hired offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their next coach.
On his YouTube channel, Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin was disgusted with the team and owner Jerry Jones for not hiring Colorado Buffaloes coach and former Cowboy Deion Sanders as the next coach.
"It's snatching America's team off our backs. We're losing a generation, man, a whole generation. A third of Cowboys nation right now never known. How do you tell their kids about it? How can they tell their kids when they didn't know it? That's why hiring a Deion was the right call."
It's no secret that Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders are friends. However, that wasn't the sole motivation for Irvin clamoring for Prime Time in Dallas, as he discussed:

"Deion is running social media. ... This next generation that has never felt the glory of that championship story, we could at least snatch them up on social media, because that's part of the new thing. Get with it or get gone.
"And this (hire) makes me think we're thinking getting gone. Come on, man, Jerry, this shit was more than just about football games. This was about the history of our game, of our name in this game, and this was not the decision we needed."
Only time will tell if Jerry Jones made the correct decision, but it's not a popular move with some of the greats of the game.
What does the new coach hire mean for the Dallas Cowboys?
Not hiring Deion Sanders and instead hiring Brian Schottenheimer could mean a lot of things, but the popular take is that Jerry Jones wants to be the star for the franchise. With Deion Sanders as coach, that wouldn't have happened.
The Dallas Cowboys also likely were never going to consider drafting Shedeur Sanders, Deion's son, as it was one thing he said he would do and leave Colorado for an opportunity to do that. Deion Sanders hasn't publicly addressed the hire of Schottenheimer as of this writing, but this was a major public relations hit for the team.
At the end of the day, if the Dallas Cowboys were to get to the Super Bowl next season, it wouldn't matter. However, coming off a season where they missed the playoffs and two divisional opponents are in the NFC Championship Game, the noise continues to get loud.
