The Commanders visited the Buccaneers with both teams looking to reach the Divisional Round and the Mike Evans-Marshon Lattimore subplot added to the excitement. The Washington defender played with the Saints prior to joining the Commanders this year and faced many a close battle with the Tampa Bay wide receiver. There were ejections and personal battles and many NFL observers were looking forward to their one-to-one matchup.

However, in the first half, Mike Evans dominated Marshon Lattimore. Even though the two teams finished tied 10-10 at halftime, the wide receiver had the upper hand over the cornerback. He caught all of his four targets, recorded 55 yards and a touchdown, and Baker Mayfield had a perfect passer rating. In total, he finished with five catches for 66 yards, one touchdown, and also forced a pass interference by the defender in the endzone.

Mike Evans continued to torment Marshon Lattimore in the second half too, so much so that the Commanders decided to give extra attention to the wide receiver. That, however, allowed Baker Mayfield to throw a touchdown pass to Bucky Irving to take a 17-10 lead.

Commanders' Marshon Lattimore has last laugh against Buccaneers' Mike Evans

Ultimately, personal accolades count for little in the NFL. Football is a team game and the biggest achievement is winning a Super Bowl ring. The Commanders defeated the Buccaneers 23-20 in Tampa Bay to proceed to the divisional round.

A costly turnover on snap gave Washington the initiative and they used it to the fullest. With the score 20-20 going into the two-minute warning, Jayden Daniels led a drive far past what one would expect from a rookie. He set up a field goal attempt with three seconds remaining, which was converted to give them a walk-off win.

With all the talk about Mike Evans and Marshon Lattimore, it became a shootout between the Buccaneers' defense and the Washington offense. Despite the wide receiver's best efforts, his nemesis' team made it to the Divisional Round. They will now face the Lions in Detroit with a chance to get another win on the road and make it to the conference championship. The cornerback might have been beaten a couple of times personally, but he ends up with a playoff victory in his pocket.
