Mike McCarthy could be coaching his last game with the Dallas Cowboys in the team's season finale against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
He was hired prior to the 2020 season after the Cowboys moved on from Jason Garrett, and McCarthy's contract will expire after Sunday's game. There's been some chatter on whether or not the Cowboys would bring him back. With the possibility of coaching his last game with Dallas, McCarthy made his feelings clear about the possibility as the team prepared for the Commanders.
Per The Athletic's Jon Machota, McCarthy said:
"So I have a very strong emotional attachment that it hits me every time I walk in there and every time I walk out. So, yeah, I’m definitely aware of it. I’m not thinking about it right now, but, yeah, I’m definitely in tune with that.”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sounds like he wants Mike McCarthy back next season
The Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones have a big decision to make about Mike McCarthy's future. Dallas needs to know by the end of the season what they're going to do with McCarthy, as the team would need to prepare to look for his replacement. However, it doesn't sound like they will be doing that.
Just last week, appearing on "105.3 The Fan," Jones spoke about how proud he was of McCarthy while also stating he's excited about the future ahead.
"I can't tell you how proud I am of the way the coaching staff, led by Mike McCarthy, the way that the leadership on this team, and really proud of these young players," Jones said. "They just are growing mentally and physically by leaps and bounds, makes me think we've got and outstanding future ahead of us."
Prior to Sunday's game, McCarthy has compiled a 49-34 record as Dallas' coach in the last five seasons. He has led the Cowboys to the playoffs three times while winning the NFC East division twice.
