Mike Tomlin has spent more than two decades being on the sidelines in various coaching positions. However, a fight against teammates is always tough to deal with.

On Wednesday, during training camp, veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts shoved QB Justin Fields to the ground during a play. According to ESPN, rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu did not like Roberts’ behavior and rushed in to shove him. After that, things devolved into absolute chaos on the field, as several other Pittsburgh Steelers players joined in. The Steelers coach shared his thoughts on the entire matter.

After the training session was over the 2009 Super Bowl winner HC Mike Tomlin faced the media and did not shy away from sharing his true feelings on the matter.

“There’s a lot of lessons to be learned”, Tomlin said. “Some formal, some informal. We got a little bit less than professional & chippy. It’s an opportunity to teach & learn. As much as we hate it, we'll learn & grow from that.”

There have not been any fines or repercussions for the players involved in this dust-up as of now.

Unlike Mike Tomlin, T.J. Watt finds positives from the fight

Mike Tomlin and T.J. Watt are both Steelers legends in their own right. However, the LB had a different take on the fight. Watt also expressed his opinion on the brawl. He said (per Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review):

“As long as there is good meaning behind it. Sometimes you need to stoke the fire to see what we are about as a team. That is all today was about. We don’t want it to continue and mess up practice.”

While both Watt and Tomlin derive different meanings from the fight, they both want the team to grow from this point forward. The Steelers will continue to be in training camp till August 14. The players and the fans would hope this was their first and last incident of this kind.
