The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to an uncharacteristically poor start. Head coach Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season during his tenure with the Steelers, but that may change this year.
With the retirement of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh signed Mitchell Trubisky and drafted Kenny Pickett in the first round. Trubisky has already been replaced by the rookie quarterback and the Steelers find themselves with a 1-4 record through five games.

With the Steelers season in a current uproar, many are wondering what the coach's contract and salary are as he charters unchartered territory during his time with the team.
In April 2021, the PIttsburgh Steelers announced that they had signed Tomlin to a three-year contract extension that has him locked in through the 2024 NFL season. This will allow him to surpass Bill Cowher as the longest tenured Pittsburgh Steelers head coach.
According to a report from Sportico last season, Tomlin is tied for fifth amongst the highest paid coaches in United States sports. The Steelers head coach makes about $11.5 million per year.
When he was first hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a first-time head coach, he made approximately $3 million per year.
How long has Mike Tomlin been the HC of the Pittsburgh Steelers?
The Pittsburgh Steelers hired Mike Tomlin in January 2007 after former head coach Cowher had retired after 15 seasons with the team. He had no previous head coach experience and was the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings when he was hired by the Steelers.
In just his second season as head coach, he led the Steelers to Super Bowl XLIII where they defeated the Arizona Cardinals. At the time, he was the youngest head coach to ever win a Super bowl at just 36 years old.
He was originally signed to a four-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers with a fifth-year option. In the summer of 2012, just as training camp began, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they had signed him to another three-year contract extension, a trend that has continued throughout his career.
Now in his 16tth season as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tomlin has led the Steelers to Super Bowl appearances, winning one Lombardi Trophy. His career record is currently 155-88 through the first five weeks of the season. He and the Steelers have also won seven AFC North divisional titles. This may be one of the toughest seasons for the Steelers head coach.
