Nathaniel Hackett departs Denver as Broncos decides to part ways with HC following poor 2022 NFL season

The Denver Broncos have fired Nathaniel Hackett.

The Denver Broncos have just parted ways with their offseason hire, Nathaniel Hackett. Expectations haven't been met for the Broncos as they have struggled to a 4-11 record.

Things could not have gone much worse for the Broncos, and they proved that not every popular assistant is exactly cut out for being a head coach.

The issues began all the way back in Week 1 when Hackett opted to kick an NFL-record length field goal rather than go for it on fourth-and-short.

Things only got worse from there as the positives have been few and far between this year. Following a poor outing against the Los Angeles Rams, Hackett was relieved of duty.

Denver Broncos release statement on firing of Nathaniel Hackett

The Denver Broncos released a statement regarding their firing of the first-year coach on Twitter.

New owner and CEO Greg Penner, who bought the team in the offseason, has stated that he will lead the coaching search going forward:

"Moving forward, we will carefully evaluate every aspect of our football operations and make whatever changes are necessary to restore this franchise's winning tradition."

He continued:

"I will lead our coaching search with support from our ownership group and George, whom I have confidence in as our general manager."

Why was Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett fired?

Nathaniel Hackett was fired from the Denver Broncos for one reason. While it is shocking that a first-year coach didn't even make it out of the first season he was hired, it's not all that surprising that Hackett didn't make it.

The pairing of Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson was a failure

The team was one of the worst in all of football. Their defense was among the best in the league, so much so that an 18-point total in regulation every single game this year would have them as one of the league's best teams.

Hackett was an offensive coach, even more so with quarterbacks, which is why he was hired. Russell Wilson, who used to be a Pro Bowl quarterback, looks like an irreparable version of himself now and Hackett hasn't been good for him.
