The 2-5 New York Jets entered Week 8 with an air of desperation around the franchise. Despite trading for Davante Adams after a Week 6 Monday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Jets failed to turn things around against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week in what was a 37-15 loss. Another loss would severely dent the Jets’ hopes of playing meaningful football in January.

Haason Reddick’s return to the fold was another major talking point heading into this week after the defensive end held out for seven weeks in hopes of securing a long-term contract.

The Jets were the most penalized teams in terms of yards through seven weeks of football and were hit with another early penalty in the first quarter. That penalty inadvertently led to Drake Maye rushing for his first touchdown off a 17-yard sprint.

Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, struggled on the Jets’ opening drive. The problems stacked up as the Jets drained all of their timeouts in the first quarter after a sloppy start. They were rescued by two pass interference penalties which led to their first TD off a Tyler Conklin reception. The point after was not close as they settled for six points. Rodgers racked up a second TD after a throw to Xavier Gipson for their first lead of the day.

After Drake Maye left with a head injury, the Patriots were handed a fresh setback despite Jacoby Brissett’s abilities. The offense stalled to a degree after Rhamondre Stevenson’s TD, which is when the Jets defense gained some belief.

The Jets had the opportunity to get things going after a huge first down from Tyler Conklin but after Rodgers got sacked off a four-man rush in the fourth, that drive fizzled out after Greg Zuerlein missed another conversion. That was his sixth missed field goal, the most of any kicker this season.

After a Braelon Allen TD, the Jets thought they had this in the bag but were made to sweat after a major first down off Kayshon Boutte brought the Patriots up the field. Boutte fell just short of the end zone but Rhamondre Stevenson ensured the Patriots picked up the win with 22 seconds left.
