New report highlights full extent of Taylor Swift's effect on Chiefs fandom since dating Travis Kelce

Since Taylor Swift arrived at her first Kansas City Chiefs game last September to cheer on Travis Kelce, most NFL fans have embraced her. Her loyal "Swifties" suddenly became more interested in the league as its merchandise sales and social media followers increased dramatically.

According to a recent report from Sportico's Jacob Feldman, the league has gained four million female fans since last September. However, it's not just football that saw an increase as female fans are also more interested in other collegiate and professional sports.

"Since Sep. 2023, the @NFL has gained over 4 million female fans (3.4 million @Chiefs fans), but the Taylor Swift effect stretches beyond football as college basketball teams, minor league baseball teams and others are adopting new strategies to draw fans."

During the 2024 Super Bowl, which the Kansas City Chiefs won, there was a 24% increase in viewership from females between the ages of 18 and 24 according to Sportico. Not only did Taylor Swift bring more fans to the Chiefs Kingdom, but her presence also made female fans more interested in watching sports.

Swifties think Travis Kelce's lack of production is politically motivated

It's no secret that Grammy-winning singer Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris to be the next President of the United States. Some "Swifties" believe that her endorsement is the reason for Travis Kelce not being heavily involved in the Kansas City Chiefs offense through the first three weeks.

Swift's fans on social media have created a theory that Patrick Mahomes isn't throwing the ball to Kelce because of politics. The quarterback's wife Brittany Mahomes recently liked a post on X that supported Donald Trump which could mean that the couples are on different sides of the political aisle.

Travis Kelce has just eight catches for 69 yards this season — his longest catch being 8.6 yards. While teams have been putting double coverage on the star tight end, there were also some instances when Kelce was wide open on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons.

Kelce has been Mahomes' top target, especially in clutch situations, and it's hard to imagine that off-field topics would impact the game. Even though the Chiefs are 3-0, fans would like to see to the TE get a touchdown sooner rather than later.
