On Thursday Night Football, the New York Giants hosted the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East grudge match at MetLife Stadium in a critical game for both teams. Neither has started the season as well as they would've anticipated and needed a win to get their season on track.
The Giants were blown out in their season-opener against the Minnesota Vikings before losing to division rivals Washington Commanders in Week 2. They finally got their first win of their season last Sunday, as they beat the Cleveland Browns 21-15, but their overall record of 1-2 is still underwhelming.
The Cowboys also got their only win of the campaign over the Browns, thrashing them 33-17 on the road in Week 1. Since that victory, they have suffered an astonishing blowout loss to the Saints and a narrow defeat against the Baltimore Ravens at AT&T Stadium.
Both teams were aiming to get back to .500 with a win on Thursday night before enjoying a nine-day break ahead of their next game. Here's how it panned out:

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys summary
The Giants got off to a good start as their defense forced a three-and-out on the game's first drive and their offense embarked on a seven-play, 66-yard drive before kicker Greg Joseph converted his field goal attempt 52 yards out to give them the lead.
On the ensuing drive, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense worked the Giants' defense, embarking on a near-seven-minute drive that ended with the quarterback finding Rico Dowdle on a screen pass and the running back taking it in the endzone for the game's only touchdown.
Daniel Jones and the Giants' offense responded with a lengthy 14-play drive that got stalled at the Cowboys' 22-yard line, forcing the home team to settle for a 41-yard field goal that cut Dallas' lead to one point.
The visitors quickly restored their one-touchdown lead as Prescott and CeeDee Lamb combined for a 55-yard play that added six more points to their team's score.
The Giants' offense responded by embarking on another long drive and were seemingly primed to find the endzone to potentially tie the game. However, Micah Parsons' stellar work on a 3rd-and-4 play sent Jones straight into the waiting arms of teammate Demarcus Lawrence, who sacked the quarterback and forced the home team to settle for another field goal in the final scoring play of the first half.
New York opened the second half with a patient drive and went all the way down to Dallas' three-yard line. But instead of going for it on fourth down, they opted to kick a short field goal, a decision they'd later regret.
The Cowboys' subsequent drive which started at their 30-yard line stalled after 10 plays and 38 yards. Dallas opted to try a risky 60-yard field goal attempt, but kicker Brandon Aubrey kicked it through the uprights from the logo to restore his team's five-point cushion.
The Giants opened the fourth quarter with another field goal and the Cowboys responded with one of their own, as the gap on the scoreboard remained five points.
With just over six minutes left in the game, Jones and the offense got the ball back and looked to march down the field to level the scores. On a 4th-and-6 play at their 45-yard line, the home team needed a big play to keep the drive and their hopes of winning the game alive.
They had seemingly gotten what they wished for as the quarterback threw a dime to wide receiver Malik Nabers, who had the ball in his palms for a second. However, he dropped it on impact, giving Prescott and the Cowboys offense a short field to work with.
They ran the ball on six straight plays before setting up a 51-yard field goal attempt for Aubrey that would have secured overtime at worst. However, the kicker missed, giving Jones the opportunity to pull off a miracle.
With 15 seconds left, the Giants called a Hail Mary, but cornerback Amani Oruwariye was on sight to intercept the pass and end the game.
