Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is drawing attention for his 2024 performance despite a fierce MVP rivalry with Josh Allen, who signed a six-year, $258 million contract extension in 2021. Jackson has completed 442 pass attempts with just four interceptions, averaging one interception per 111 passes.
On Wednesday, NFL Network's Peter Schrager shared a tweet to hail the Ravens QB.
"What is perhaps most impressive about Lamar's MVP-caliber season is that he’s thrown 442 passes and only four have been intercepted," Schrager wrote.
Then, on Friday's episode of NFL Network's Good Morning Football, Schrager talked about it again.

"Yesterday, when I was going down the rabbit hole on the Josh Allen-Lamar Jackson MVP debate, I discovered an eye-popping number looking at the stats," Schrager said. ... "I was so blown away by this number that I had to tweet about it.
To put this into context, Schrager explained that Aaron Rodgers holds the best-ever pass attempt-to-interception ratio minimum of 440 passes. The veteran QB achieved the feat in 2018 with 597 attempts and only two interceptions.
Cut to the present, Jackson's 2024 performance is quickly climbing the ranks. With 39 touchdowns and only four interceptions, his efficiency is remarkable.
Peter Schrager analyzed Sarah Ellison’s insight into Lamar Jackson’s interceptions
Adding further, Peter Schrager brought up The Ravens Vault podcast co-host Sarah Ellison's tweet, where she replied to the NFL Network's insider.
Ellison pointed out that these interceptions were rare, and none could truly be blamed on Lamar Jackson.
Scrutinizing the interceptions, Schrager took a deep dive into the game film. He focused on the moments that showed Jackson's pinpoint accuracy in spite of the outcomes.
Week 2 against the Raiders was the first example. In the game, Jackson's pass to Rashad Bateman ricocheted off Bateman's hands and was intercepted.
“That should have been a catch,” Schrager said.
Next came Week 6 against the Washington Commanders. Jackson's tight connection with Mark Andrews was disrupted when the tight end dropped what seemed like an easy catch. Consequently, it led to another interception.
The most baffling was in Week 11 against the Steelers. Jackson threaded the needle with a pass that landed perfectly in Justice Hill’s hands. However, the ball was stripped away by rookie Payton Wilson as Hill hit the ground.
The fourth interception happened during the Week 16 game against the Steelers. There, Bateman again faltered and cut his route short. This caused a miscommunication that led to a rare misstep between Lamar Jackson and his WR.
"This one could be Lamar’s fault. It could be Bateman’s fault," Schrager said while acknowledging the uncertainty around this play.
In total, four interceptions, but only one could arguably be laid at Lamar Jackson’s feet.
Schrager concluded, saying, “It could have been just one; it could have been zero."
Jackson came quite close to an even more flawless season.
