Chris Broussard thinks it is a mistake for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys not to pursue Bill Belichick. The legendary six-time Super Bowl-winning coach has not been on the sidelines this season and was waiting for the right offer. It came in the form of UNC Tar Heels announcing him as their new head coach. It will be the former Patriots' coach's first time taking on the mantle at college level.
Broussard believes that the Cowboys should have made a move before that. Mike McCarthy is widely believed to be under the threat of replacement. Dallas currently has a losing record, will most likely miss the playoffs, and the incumbent is in the last year of his contract. Therefore, Jerry Jones is expected to be in the market for a new coach but Bill Belichick is now taken.
The NFL analyst said that it was a big mistake on the Cowboys' part. Their biggest issue this season has been fixing the run defense and if there is anything the former New England boss knows to do, it is fix leaky defenses. Broussard also said that having a personality like that in the locker room would get the players focusing more. Speaking on First Things First, he commented,
"Big mistake by the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones. This is the guy for them. I don't know that he'd go there and win the Super Bowl. I think their best chance, they should be going after Bill Belichick. The defense we know he would do work wonders with and I think if they knew, those players knew Bill Belichick was coming in there, every one of them is at attention now."

Chris Broussard postulates why Jerry Jones did not pursue Bill Belichick for Cowboys HC
Chris Broussard continued by saying why he thinks the Cowboys owner did not take the plunge with Bill Belichick. The legendary coach likes more control over team affairs. He was the de facto general manager in New England and that overlaps with Jerry Jones' responsibilities in Dallas. The NFL analyst said,
"I understand why Jerry didn't do it, knowing what Jerry's like, he wants all the attention. But this was the move for the Cowboys, and it looks like they've squandered it."
There has also been some chatter from current players that Mike McCarthy would be welcomed back for 2025. Hence, whether a head coaching vacancy would be available or not is currently unknown.
