NFL analyst laughs off Tom Brady military comments, claims Chipotle workers under more pressure than football players

Tom Brady made headlines for all the wrong reasons this past week. The quarterback was on the receiving end of an embarrassing 20-18 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This was made worse as Pittsburgh were playing without most of their defensive starters due to injuries. They were also forced to pull rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett out of the game after he suffered an injury.

The day after the loss to the Steelers, Brady made another egregious mistake on the Let's Go! podcast. He compared playing in the NFL to military deployment, saying:

"I almost look at a football season like you’re going away on deployment in the military, and it’s like, ‘Man, here I go again.'"

On the Galaxy Brains show on NBC, hosts Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter discussed Tom Brady's military comments. Daugherty said:

"Tom Brady touched a third rail this week when he compared playing in the NFL to an overseas military deployment. You know, in addition to being offensive to many NFL fans, Danny, this is just patently incorrect. So it's nothing like that at all. And just what would you compare being in the NFL to, if not an overseas military deployment to an active war zone?"

Carter provided a more apt comparison:

"The first thing that comes to mind here is, you know, a Chipotle shift worker getting ready for the lunch rush because I can't imagine a more pressure packed, demanding situation that a human being can be in besides the Chipotle thing and being in the NFL, being in an NFL game, those two things to me are quite similar."

He then added that Chipotle workers are probably under stress:

"In fact, I probably have to lean toward the Chipotle workers as the more pressurized group there. I think Brady could have gone with that instead of saying we are soldiers being deployed to war zones."

Tom Brady apologized for his comments

Tom Brady addressed the backlash during his media availability on Thursday and apologized for his comments. The quarterback said:

"I made a statement about playing football in the military, and it was a very poor choice of words. I just want to express that to any sentiments out there that people may have taken it in a certain way. So I apologize."

Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the struggling Carolina Panthers on Sunday. If Tampa Bay loses that game, they could all but concede their hopes of another Super Bowl ring. With the Buccaneers heavy favorites, they need to put in a dominating display to silence their critics.
