Analysts have long speculated about Mike McCarthy's future with the Dallas Cowboys. For years, analysts have foretold Jerry Jones moving in a new direction to replace the coach who replaced Jason Garrett. However, there's an outside chance that the decision could be made for Jones.
Speaking on Wednesday's edition of "Pro Football Talk," NFL analyst Mike Florio addressed whether he believed another team could come in and swoop Mike McCarthy (1:26):
"It would be funny if another team swooped in and tried to hire Mike McCarthy. I don't think they're going to do that. That's part of the gentleman's agreement. Unspoken. No Code Red ordered. It won't happen."

Of course, with a contract set to expire in just weeks, it would not be jumping the gun too much if a general manager chose to send a quiet little text or leave a quick voicemail for the head coach.
At this point, however, Florio doesn't believe that is the case. However, nothing is stopping managers from scheduling those texts to be delivered one minute after the head coach's contract's expiration date. Nabbing a head coach who has earned 12 wins in three of the last four years would not be hard to sell a fanbase on.
Exploring potential Mike McCarthy landing spots
Mike McCarthy's career as a head coach appeared to be on life support after he and Aaron Rodgers went their separate ways in Green Bay. With no contract on the books, McCarthy might once again find himself fighting for work after the season and his contract ends.
However, the fight should be easier this time around considering the head coach is coming off three 12-win seasons since the start of 2021.
One potential landing spot could be the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers and McCarthy have had years to work through any lingering feelings from the Green Bay tenure and with the Jets clearly open to surrounding the quarterback from pieces from his past, McCarthy could be at the top of their wishlist.
The New Orleans Saints are also an intriguing option. The team saw plenty of success under offensive mastermind Sean Payton. As such, they might be interested in going with another offensive thinker in Mike McCarthy.
Lastly, the Las Vegas Raiders could end up desiring McCarthy if they elect to clean house after the 2024 season. With the AFC West serving as arguably the deepest coaching division in the NFL, the Raiders may need someone like McCarthy simply to keep pace.
