Aaron Rodgers' struggles with Jets

Aaron Rodgers is having a disappointing 2024 NFL season with the New York Jets. They entered the year with expectations of being legitimate playoff contenders, but instead have just a 4-12 record ahead of their Week 18 game. There are several reasons, one of which could be their offensive leader, who hasn't been at his best.

NFL analyst Michael Nania highlighted one of the biggest issues for the quarterback that has been hurting their offense all year long.

The New York Jets offensive line has done a solid job protecting Rodgers this season, according to their pass-blocking metrics. Nania outlined that he has only pressured on 25% of his total dropbacks, which is the second-best rate in the entire NFL.

He revealed that Rodgers ranks just 31st out of 35 eligible quarterbacks in EPA per dropback when throwing from a clean pocket. He has also thrown nine interceptions in these situations, which is the second most of any quarterback this year.

This demonstrates that the Jets' offensive line has been one of the best pass-blocking units this season. Rodgers' offense is also loaded with elite weapons, including Davante Adams, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. Despite all of this, Rodgers is having one of the worst statistical seasons of his entire career.

Aaron Rodgers' disastrous 2024 NFL season

The New York Jets were one of the most highly anticipated teams entering the 2024 NFL season. They already have had an elite defense in recent seasons, as well as a strong cast of offensive weapons, so adding the legendary quarterback was theoretically supposed to make them legitimate contenders.

Aaron Rodgers missed all but one game in his first season with the Jets last year due to an Achilles injury, but his return has fallen way short of his expectations. The Jets have just a 4-12 record and Rodgers' stats are nowhere near the MVP level that he consistently demonstrated when he was still with the Green Bay Packers.

His 12 losses are the most he has ever had in any season and his 89.1 passer rating is a career-low (except seasons where he was not the starter). He is averaging 226 yards per game, the second-lowest of his career, while his 63.0 completion percentage is his worst over the past five years.

Regardless of what the reasons are, the 41-year-old simply hasn't been the same elite quarterback as he was once.
