Kyler Murray has been the leader of the Arizona Cardinals ever since they drafted him first overall in 2019. But despite his modest successes, Colin Cowherd is still not convinced and wants him purged from Glendale.
After their 2021 Wild Card exit, the Cardinals fell back to their past struggles, going 4-13 in 2022 and 2023 as their quarterback faced a dearth of weapons. The arrival of Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2024 seemed to herald an end to it, as the team went 6-4 before their bye week and seemed poised to shockingly win the NFC West.
But then they collapsed, going 1-5 in their next six, and were eliminated from playoff contention after an overtime loss at the lowly Carolina Panthers. And Cowherd has had enough of the disappointment.
Speaking on his eponymous podcast on Monday, he boldly suggested that head coach Jonathan Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort consider trading away Kyler Murray to get a first-rounder that they can then use on a prospect like Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders:

"I think Arizona is going to have a discussion to see if they can move him. I think this year you can get a number one from Garrett Wilson, the Jets. Why? It's a bad draft, a really weak draft. Last year, you're not getting much. Next year, you may not get much. In this draft? I think you can get a number one."
He continued:
"Every year we have seven teams that need a quarterback. There's Cam [Ward] who will play immediately, and Shedeur [Sanders] will play immediately. There's not another college quarterback that can play... To me, Kyler is going to have a market."
Steelers emerge as favorites to land Kyler Murray if he is traded
Elsewhere, a potential suitor has already emerged for Kyler Murray. According to Bovada, the Pittsburgh Steelers have emerged as the favorites to land the former Offensive Rookie of the Year should the Cardinals decide to move on from him.
There is some sense to the Steelers trading for Kyler Murray. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will be free agents after the season ends, opening up an opportunity for him to come in and become an immediate leader.
His dynamic dual-threat game should also prove enticing to head coach Mike Tomlin, who, like his peers in the AFC North, likes to prioritize the running game. In Pittsburgh, Murray would have Najee Harris (should he be extended) and Jaylen Warren to work with, forming a potent trio on the ground. And in the air, Murray would enjoy the services of George Pickens, Calvin Austin, Pat Freiermuth, and Darnell Washington.
