Jerry Jones is not only the owner of the Dallas Cowboys but, he is also the general manager of the team as well. That makes for an interesting situation when it comes to personnel decisions, including that of hiring a head coach.
On Friday's episode of the "Scoop City" podcast, co-hosts Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel spoke about the head coaching candidates for the Dallas Cowboys job. Top candidates, Kellen Moore and Deion Sanders were also discussed and Chase Daniel made the point that whoever is hired for the job will need to have a similar personality to Jones to make it work.
"Your owner is the GM, and he is the person who has the final say. Jerry does. So there has to be a really good working relationship on how to handle the owner, because the owner's in your business probably a lot more than other jobs.
"And you have to be able to have a relationship that goes back and Kellen Moore really owes Jerry Jones just about everything that he has as a coach because he played from him from 15 to 17." [9:45]

He continued, discussing Kellen Moore's relationship with Jerry Jones:
"They're hiring him as the quarterback coach. He was OC there for four or five years, I believe, and they were top six in almost every major category offensively when he was there. I think he makes a lot of sense, because I think that he can handle Jerry Jones, that's the number one thing."
Dianna Russini then stated that she believes the Dallas Cowboys lose out on good quality head coaches because of Jerry Jones.
"It's a certain type of personality, right? Those very bold, outspoken, strong willed type coaches I don't think necessarily are the best fit to work with Jerry Jones. Does that mean that's the best for their football product, that's debatable, right?
"I think Dallas loses out sometimes on some of the great coaches because of that personality factor. There are some people around the league who say, if you work under Jerry, he has to feel like he can control you, right?"
Russini moved to how this would work if Deion Sanders came to Dallas:
"And in the Deion Sanders example, you could say, well, you can't control Deion Sanders. Well, you may not be able to control Deion Sanders, but Deion Sanders is going to be new to head coaching in the NFL. Who do you think is going to lean on? It's going to lean on Jerry, right?
"There's a little bit of control there. Um, so I think Kellen, actually, and this is a compliment to Kellen, because of that loyalty, because he came up through Dallas as a coach, there's going to be that loyalty as well. There's going to be a personality fit, and he understands it."
All in all, Russini and Daniel essentially don't feel that Deion Sanders will be a good fit for the head coaching role due to his strong personality. He may not want to listen and follow everything that Jerry Jones wants for his team and a breakdown in their relationship would hurt the team.
Could Deion Sanders' being denied additional NIL funding lead him to Jerry Jones' Cowboys?
Deion Sanders reportedly spoke to Jerry Jones earlier this week about the head coaching vacancy with the Dallas Cowboys. While Sanders is considered a top candidate he recently told ESPN that he wasn't interested in leaving Colorado. However, that could change.
This week Sanders approached Rick George, the Athletic Director for the University of Colorado, about increasing NIL funding. Increasing the funding would allow Sanders to stay competitive in recruiting players this offseason, but George reportedly denied the funding.
Sanders has yet to comment on the NIL situation and that now leaves some questioning if a lack of resources will force him to leave Colorado. This could open the door for him to join the NFL and in particular, the Dallas Cowboys.
