Drake Maye is not playing in the Super Bowl, his New England Patriots having finished a division-worst 4-13 for the second time in a row in his debut season. But he has helped someone else get a chance to watch it, and the lucky benefactor is from a community that he knows very well.

On Thursday, the USAA, NFL, and American Legion jointly released an ad of the third-picked quarterback giving tickets to the Big Game to former US Army Staff Sergeant Matt Jabaut and his fiancee Caroline in Portland, Maine:

And there was much praise for him:

"That's my quarterback."

More of it can be seen below:

"So awesome. Way to go, Drake!" one cheered.
"Greatest human in New England Patriots history," another proclaimed.
"Sweet," another gushed.

Maye also issued a press statement:

"It was awesome and a lot of fun getting to surprise Sgt. Matt Jabaut in Portland, Maine, with the news that we were sending him and his fiancé to the Super Bowl. Knowing my grandfather served, I have so much respect and gratitude for the men and women who've served our country, like Staff Sgt. Jabaut.
"I'm so excited to have teamed up with USAA and The American Legion to gift Matt this once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again in New Orleans!"

USAA-American Legion ad not Drake Maye's first collaboration with a military veterans organization

As a descendant of a former Navy service, Drake Maye knows what being part of the military community is like. Last month, he partnered with the Boston Chapter of Folds of Honor, an organization that supports the spouses and children of fallen service members and first responders, to found seven scholarships bearing his name for the 2024-25 academic year.

Sean McDonough, ESPN broadcaster and organization member, said in a press release:

“Folds of Honor Boston is so excited to partner with Drake Maye to support New England families of our nation's military and first responders. I had the privilege of covering several UNC games and meeting Drake in person. He is an incredible talent but even more so, a great guy and a person of high character. We are grateful for his support.”

Besides Boston/New England, the organization has more than 20 chapters across the country.
