Zach Wilson's second preseason outing as a Denver Broncos quarterback got off to a nightmare start. The 25-year-old entered his team's game against the Green Bay Packers in the third quarter, looking to add to their 20-point lead.

With the Broncos offense starting the series at the 10-yard line, Wilson had the opportunity to engineer a long drive. However, on 2nd-and-14, the quarterback faked a hand-off and dropped back into the end zone before getting sacked by Packers defensive end Zach Morton. His mental error gave Green Bay its first points of the night and wiped away the Broncos defense's clean sheet.

Fans were less than impressed with Wilson's slow start in the game and his error, which led to a safety. Many poked fun at the former New York Jets star on social media, while some claimed that the end of his NFL career was near.

Is Zach Wilson done in the NFL?

Wilson's NFL career is on thin ice. The second overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft was a bust for the Jets, who gave up on the quarterback two years into his career and acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Packers during the 2023 offseason.

The four-time NFL MVP's season-ending injury in his debut for the Jets gave Wilson's career a new lease of life. However, he couldn't capitalize on the opportunity and was expected to be cut.

The Broncos traded a seventh-round pick to acquire the former Jets signal caller, hoping a change in scenery would reignite a spark in him.

To his credit, he had a terrific outing in their first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Wilson completed 10 of his 13 pass attempts for 117 yards.

However, his second outing was reminiscent of his time with the Jets. He completed only two of his six pass attempts for 29 yards and a touchdown, then gave up a safety against the Packers backup defensive unit.

He is competing with Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham for the starting spot in their season-opener against the Seattle Seahawks. The rookie is expected to start the game, leaving the two veterans to battle it out for the backup role.

Wilson has only one year left on his current contract. If he fails to get meaningful game time this season, he'd likely not find any suitors next year. That said, this will be a make-or-break year for Wilson's career.
