Garrett Wilson is seemingly losing his clout within the New York Jets, especially with the arrival of Davante Adams. Although he hit 100 yards in his last two games, the trade for Aaron Rodgers' old Green Bay cohort threatens to take targets away from him.

And if negative-minded fans needed an excuse to have Wilson benched, he provided it with this horrendous failed catch against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football that was nabbed by cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. and almost returned for a touchdown:

There was much mockery after the play:

More of it can be seen below:

"Getting cut tomorrow," one predicted.
"Duck hands!" another jeered.
"If I’m Aaron I’m looking at davante and Lazard for the rest of the game," another opined.

During that same play, the Jets also lost offensive guard Xavier Newman after linebacker Patrick Queen ran through him while preventing a tackle.

What Jets’ trade for Davante Adams means for Garrett Wilson

With Davente Adams once again playing alongside Aaron Rodgers, there has been some speculation that he and Allen Lazard will become the Jets’ primary targets, creating some sort of mini-Green Bay situation, albeit in Gotham green instead of hunter green. That could leave the likes of Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams on the outside looking in, especially with Adam Schefter reporting that teams have inquired about their availability.

But for Jet Nation’s Scott Mitchell, it will actually mean more and better opportunities for the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year. He writes:

“For far too long, other NFL defenses knew that Wilson was the main, and only threat at wide receiver. For example, last year, if Wilson wasn’t doing well, nobody was. Randall Cobb dropped everything thrown at him, Allen Lazard had an awful 2023, and nobody else threatened opposing defenses. Now, Adams could take the eyes off of Wilson, which could lead to big plays from him, and vice versa.”

But at the same time, it will also mean bad news for the likes of third-round rookie Malachi Corley:

"Corley was already a massive afterthought. He has been a healthy scratch for the past couple of weeks; and with Adams coming, that doesn’t look likely to change any time soon. With various Instagram stories already showing his displeasure with his current role, Corley’s morale will more than likely continue to fall… It could only be a matter of time before the Jets move on from him entirely."

And then there is Williams, whose name has already been mentioned in trade rumors involving the Steelers and his former Los Angeles Chargers. Both teams are said to badly need partners for their respective no. 1 options George Pickens and Quentin Johnston.
