Jalen Carter is one of the most promising defensive up-and-comers in the NFL today, having made his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl this season after posting career-highs in tackling.
He also happens to be one of the league's more polarizing players, already being involved in some controversies. An incident on Sunday in the NFC Championship game may have only added to that image.
During the game against the Washington Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle seemed to shove center Tyler Biadasz. It also looked as if he dug deep into his face mask and poked his eye:

The referees handed out only a five-yard encroachment penalty and no personal four for the alleged face mask intrusion and eye gouge. As a result, there was outrage from many fans:
More of it can be seen below:
"There has to be some sort of a rule change to fix that," one demanded.
"I cant stand Carter," another reacted.
"This should have been 15 yard penalty," another insisted.
After three quarters, the Eagles held a 34-23 lead. Carter had two tackle assists during that span.
Recapping the last botched penalty Jalen Carter received
The last time a major penalty controversy involved Jalen Carter, it was against the intrastate, interconference rival Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.
While leading 27-13, the Eagles forced a punt. However, the defensive tackle then decided to slap tight end/fullback Connor Heyward in the head, which should have incurred a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty and automatic first down:
Instead, officials determined that the infraction had occurred after the punt.
After the game, Heyward’s elder brother Cameron called said explanation “idiotic” in an episode of his Not Just Football podcast:
"That did not feel like they even looked at the plays for multiple people to have cameras to see. The NFL spends good money on these games, and they've got all the cameras. If you can't find that camera and have a ref running up and see clear punches thrown, and then you look at the play with Connor, what are we doing here?"
Carter would be fined $11,817 for his actions.
