Earlier this week, Tony Dungy responded with a tweet to a news article shared by The Daily Wire on Twitter. Dungy's words were construed as 'transphobic' and seen to be promoting slanderous myths about schools. Many also found Dungy's words spoken without much care.
Though he immediately deleted the tweet, NFL fans had already saved it. Many criticized his words, earning an apology from Dungy later on. However, the NFL legend ended up apologizing on Twitter once again:
"This past week I posted a tweet that I subsequently deleted. I issued an apology but not everyone saw it. So I am reposting my apology here," he wrote. "As a Christian I want to be a force for love to everyone. A force for healing and reconciliation, not for animosity".
Another photo of his first apology was posted online. While he did not mention the offending tweet explicitly, he was clearly referring to the same tweet. Fans, on their end, remained unimpressed with another apology.

For many, an opinion was not the same as spreading misinformation. Some made fun of his PR team, indicating that they were trying their best to make things right on their own.
A few reminded users of his seemingly transphobic words, and were sure that the words in his apology were from an agent or his team. One user also pointed out that Dungy's tweet was up for around six hours before he deleted it.
What was Tony Dungy apologizing for?
To those unaware, Tony Dungy's original tweet said that schools are keeping litter boxes in bathrooms for students to use if they identified as cats. The news article in reference was about making menstrual products available in boy's washrooms.
"That's nothing. Some school districts are putting litter boxes in the school bathrooms for the students who identify as cats," Dungy wrote. "Very important to address every student's needs".
The tweet immediately caught attention, with fans slamming the former NFL coach and player for not even conducting a simple google search.
While fans continued to rage online, an NBC spokesperson confirmed (while talking to Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina) that Tony Dungy would remain on air for his segment.
