Sean McDermott has led the Buffalo Bills to many playoff appearances, but the head coach still has to make the Super Bowl. Playing in the same conference as the Kansas City Chiefs, they won the AFC East four straight times, but couldn't defeat Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow in January.
The 2024 AFC Championship Game has put McDermott, once again, against his biggest nemesis. Another contest between the Bills and the Chiefs started in Kansas City, and there was hope that Buffalo could finally redeem themselves and beat their archrivals at the Arrowhead Stadium.
But NFL fans were extremely disappointed to see Sean McDermott's poor clock management take away 40 seconds of possession before the Bills received the ball back:

"He didn’t realize the Chiefs were exempt from delay of games", said one fan.
"If they called delay of the game correctly, that saves both the timeout and the 2 min warning", a second fan said.
"Reid is better than almost all HC's. Tough statement for McDermott. He gives them a chance", a third fan noted.

McDermott has now seen five seasons where his team won the division and made the playoffs, but fell before reaching the Super Bowl. Andy Reid, the current head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and McDermott's biggest challenger, had a similar career path before. From 2001 to 2004, Reid was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
His team made the NFC Championship four straight times, but he only made the Super Bowl in 2004, when he lost to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
He won his first ring as a head coach 15 years later, in 2019, when Mahomes was his quarterback. Now, he's one game away from becoming the first-ever head coach to win three straight Super Bowl championships.
It took a long time for Reid, but he put his name in the history books. Will Sean McDermott be able to do the same in the future?
