Liam Coen was officially unveiled as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator was introduced on Monday, following a lengthy saga before his arrival. But any hopes of creating a great first impression were quickly squashed.
Coen started his introductory speech by trying to lighten the mood, using the Jaguars' motto "Duval." But his attempt backfired as the silence was deafening in the room, as the new head coach flashed a nervous smile.
After the video went viral on Twitter, NFL fans urged the Jacksonville Jaguars to boot him from the job, with Coen making a bad first impression:

"Fire him on the spot."
"He looks like what AI generates if you feed it the Jaguars' history and ask it to draw their coach", said one fan.
"Oh yeah. [I] Heard guys are banging down the door to go play in Jacksonville, Florida, for this dork" was another meme.
"This meme might live on for a decade. We’re gonna see this every time the Jags lose", a third fan noted.
He arrived in Jacksonville after a lengthy saga involving his hiring. According to multiple reports, he signed a five-year deal.
The saga of Liam Coen: Jaguars head coach backed off a deal, but changed his mind two days later
When the Jaguars fired head coach Doug Pederson a few weeks ago, they decided to keep general manager Trent Baalke on the job. Baalke is not a popular name among NFL circles; considered a favorite for the job, Coen withdrew his name inexplicably before having a second interview with Jacksonville.
He had agreed to a contract extension and a substantial pay rise with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to remain their offensive coordinator.
Hours after he declared himself out of the race, though, things changed. Shad Khan, the owner of the Jaguars, fired Trent Baalke, two weeks later than the firing of Pederson. Hours later, Buccaneers beat reporter Rick Stroud announced that the new contract was still not officially signed.
It later emerged that Coen was in Jacksonville for a second interview, while the Buccaneers sent him many messages, to which there were no replies. He then communicated to Tampa Bay that he would not sign the extension, and on January 24th, he became the Jaguars' head coach.
