For the second consecutive year, it looks like the second overall pick might be the most accomplished quarterback, as Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to a comprehensive 42-14 win over the Cardinals. He has to be the favorite to follow C.J. Stroud as the NFL Rookie of the Year based on how he is playing now, but he has achieved something that the Texans quarterback could not do.
Because when the game finished, Jayden Daniels had a completion percentage of 82.1 over the first four games. That is the highest ever in league history to open the season, edging out the previous record-holder, Tom Brady. Shading the greatest of all time is quite an achievement.
But it was not just that; he had an 87 percent completion rate against the Cardinals following a completion percentage of over 90 percent against the Bengals last week. That made him the first quarterback to have completed more than 85 percent of his passes in consecutive games.

Jayden Daniels has Commanders sitting atop NFC East after Cardinals win
The Commanders selected second in the 2024 NFL Draft because they were the second-worst team in the league last year. Nobody picked them to have a season where they finished in a playoff spot when the regular second concluded. The general consensus was that getting a top-rated college quarterback was going to set them up for the future as they built around him.
But right now, after the end of Week 4, Washington has a 3-1 record and is sitting atop the NFC East. Their opening game loss to the Buccaneers looks like a long time ago as they have won three straight against the Giants, Bengals, and now the Cardinals.
Meanwhile, the Eagles, who were 2-1 entering this week and had the same record as the Commanders, lost to Tampa Bay to fall to a 2-2 record, which is the same as what the Cowboys had. The Giants are at the bottom with a 1-3 record.
Jayden Daniels is having an amazing start to his rookie season. He scored a passing touchdown today to add to a rushing touchdown. It is in keeping with his season, where he has three touchdowns through the air to go with four on the ground.
He is showcasing all the talent that would make us consider him an elite dual-threat quarterback. In the process, he is dragging the Commanders to a position few expected them to be when the season began.
