The Green Bay Packers will be without one lesser wide receiver tonight as they released veteran wide receiver Sammy Watkins on Monday, December 19th.
The Packers host the Los Angeles Rams tonight to close out Week 15 of the season.
Watkins was released after appearing in only three total games, recording eight catches for 147 yards. He signed with the team on April 14, 2022, to a one-year, $4 million contract and was brought in to be one of the many receivers to fill the void for Davante Adams' prescence after he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sammy Watkins career has seen him play for five different teams
Sammy Watkins was drafted in the first-round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, with the fourth-overall pick in the draft.
He shone at the University of Clemson, totaling 240 receptions for 3,391 yards and 27 touchdowns in three seasons.
Coming out of Clemson, he was expected to be one of the best receivers for years to come. He peaked in his second season with St. Louis, as he recorded a career-high 1,047 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.
On August 11, 2017, Watkins was traded to the Rams. After a season with the Rams, he spent the next three with the Kansas City Chiefs and signed a three-year, $48 million contract.
After his stint with the Chiefs, he spent a season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, before signing with the Packers in 2022. Sammy Watkins is now a free agent and has the opportunity to sign with a sixth different team or a former team.
