Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown have been a monstrous passer-receiver tandem since 2022, when they helped the Detroit Lions rebound from a slow start to post a winning record for the first time since the Calvin Johnson era. But on Monday, the roles were reversed in one shocking trick play.

During the third quarter of the game against the Seattle Seahawks, the quarterback pitched the ball to his wideout, who threw it back to him at the end zone for six:

There was much praise for it:

More of it can be seen below:

"How could you not be entertained?" one cheered.
"Lions football is so damn fun," another declared.
"Play of the season so far," another rejoiced.

The score was part of a frantic third quarter that saw the Lions and Seahawks exchange touchdowns. Then Kenneth Walker III rushed yet again at the beginning of the fourth to put the visitors just one possession behind.

That was not Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown’s only trick play touchdown this season, however. In week 3 at the Arizona Cardinals, the quarterback threw a standard slant pass to his favorite target - but then something sly happened.

Rather than plow through two defenders for a mere first down, the wideout pitched it to Jahmyr Gibbs, who blew past said defenders for a touchdown - a “hook-and-ladder” as it is called.

After the game, St. Brown said:

"You’ve got to catch it and if you get hit before you pitch it, it might be a bad play. But I feel like there’s a lot of plays like that. You can get strip-sacked on any play, a reverse can be dangerous, any throw can get picked off."

He added:

"If you play scared, it’s not gonna be good. The hook-and-ladder is a beautiful play. We made it work. It looked good from the first time we ran it to the time we ran it in the stadium."

It was not their first-ever time doing this type of play, however. Back in the 2022 season finale, Goff and St. Brown also executed this type of play, with D’Andre Swift as the recipient of the lateral, late in the fourth quarter.
