Russell Wilson played his last game as a Pittsburgh Steeler - at least for the foreseeable future - on Saturday. Now fans want it to be the last ever game of his career.

The one-time Super Bowl champion and multiple-time Pro Bowler struggled early on in the first Saturday's Wild Card game at the Baltimore Ravens before mounting a second-half resurgence that ultimately proved too little, too late.

He finished with 20 completions for 270 yards and two touchdowns but was also sacked four times and committed a game-sealing turnover on downs in the middle of the fourth quarter.

Afterwards, a good number of fans called for him to hang up his cleats:

"Russell Wilson, you had a good career but it’s time to retire buddy."

Several fans felt it wasn't the end of the road for the NFL star.

"Steelers will fork out $30M per year because the standard is the standard, and they don’t live in their fears, and blah blah blah," one implored.
"He’ll be in Miami next year," another demanded.
"The Jets will welcome him," another said.

Steelers QB Russell WIlson reacts to Wild Card loss vs. Ravens

After the game, Russell WIlson took to the stand to address the media. He began (session begins at 13:30 in the video below):

“I thought we were super aggressive in the second half. We had to find a way to come back and try to give us a chance. Obviously, we were able to do some of that… It was unfortunate for us.”

As for the lethargy in the first half, he declined to give a reason behind it, instead choosing to compliment his teammates for waking up in the second half.

Later in the session, the topic of the 4th-and-1 punt came up. According to him, it was a decision that could not be taken lightly:

“I think that the situation, especially on the side of the field - you don’t want to give them a short field either, so I think there’s a lot of game left. Could we have gone for it? Yeah. Could we have gotten it? Yeah. But at the same time, we trust our guys, our defense and all that. I’m almost always ready to go for it, though.”

Wilson also expressed gratitude for being able to play for the Steelers after his release form the Denver Broncos, specifically mentioning the environment that he was proud to be a part of:

“It’s been such a blessing to be here. The guys that we have, the organization…it’s truly first class. We love this city, obviously, and what it means - not justo to me and Ciara and our family, but just also the (NFL). It’s a special place.”

Unless he is released early, his contract will expire on March 12, the start fo the new league year.
