The Chicago Bears have officially begun their offseason, looking for a new head coach to succeed Matt Eberflus, who was fired in the middle of the 2024 season. Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown held the position in the interim.

One new name has emerged in the search: Mike McCarthy, who is set to end his stint with the Dallas Cowboys next week.

But apparently, the team's fans are conflicted on the matter:

More of that divisiveness can be seen below:

"Why would they want him?" one wondered.
"Gotta love it," another marveled.
"Please take him Bears!" another pleaded.

Bears also eyeing pair of AFC North OCs for head coach vacancy

As it turns out, however, McCarthy is not the only one the Bears want for the position of head coach.

Also on Monday, it emerged that the franchise had reached out to a pair of offensive coordinators in the AFC North. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to speak out, mentioning the Pittsburgh Steelers' Arthur Smith as a candidate.

Under the former Atlanta Falcons HC, Russell Wilson saw a return to his efficient ways after missing the first six games with a leg injury, helping the team lead the division for a good portion of the 2024 season. However, a four-game skid consigned them to the wild card, where they will visit the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaking of the Ravens, NFL Network's Adam Pelissero reported that the Bears' front office had requested an interview with offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Under him, Lamar Jackson won MVP in 2023. Then this season, the team made league history by posting at least 4,000 rushing yards (on the strength of Derrick Henry) and 3,000 passing yards at the same time.

Schefter's tweet also mentioned Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who helped lead a monstrous turnaround from 7-10 to 15-2.

These developments follow rumors of a trade for the San Francisco 49ers' Kyle Shanahan, who ultimately refuted them after defeating the Bears 28-13 in Week 14.
