The Kansas City Chiefs are 12-1, but they still felt the need to upgrade the roster following the 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Although Patrick Mahomes' team was able to close out the division, they still need more pieces to truly compete for a third Super Bowl.

On Monday, following a poor performance from Chamarri Conner, they decided to act swiftly to improve the cornerback position. The Chiefs signed veteran CB Steven Nelson out of retirement: he's 31 years old and played the past two seasons with the Houston Texans.

Earlier this season, cornerback wasn't a problem for the team. But after Jaylen Watson was lost to the season after an injury suffered against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7, depth suddenly became a concern. For NFL fans, reactions were mostly mixed, but the recent games were a way to troll Patrick Mahomes about the signing:

"Can’t wait for them to be out in the first round and this dude retires again", said one fan.
"The amount of players we have needed to sign due to injuries is insane and we are still 12-1. Mahomes is the real MVP", another said.
"Bro really went unretired just to play with the lucky Chiefs lol", a third one trolled.

Curiously, Nelson already played with Mahomes throughout his career. He was a third-round pick by Kansas City in 2015, spending the first four years with his career with the franchise before moving to the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent. He was part of the 2018 roster that made it to the AFC Championship Game.

Which Chiefs could return from injury to help them in the playoffs?

The expectation is that, before January comes, Kansas City will be able to have kicker Harrison Butker back. He has been placed on the injured reserve, but his knee injury isn't expected to end his season.

Wide receiver Marquise Brown is also expected to be available for the postseason. The speedster has been out of action since preseason with a knee injury, but his return as a vertical threat could be massive.
