The Indianapolis Colts added a new quarterback in the 2025 draft. The franchise kept Riley Leonard in Indiana by adding the Notre Dame passer to the roster with a sixth-round pick, where he'll join the likes of Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.

Leonard is not expected to compete for the starter spot, with Richardson and Jones facing an open battle during training camp. However, the Fighting Irish quarterback could be a developmental piece for the upcoming seasons, especially as he remains at home with the Colts.

Following the announcement of the pick, NFL fans on Twitter expressed their reactions to the selection. Leonard, who led Notre Dame to the final of the College Football Playoff, received some unfavorable comparisons.

"They are just stacking inaccurate QBs that can run," noted a fan.
"I was worried that Indianapolis would improve at QB," said a Titans fan.

The quarterback joined Notre Dame for the 2024 season following a three-year stint at Duke, including a successful 2023 season with a 9-4 record in 13 games started.

Riley Leonard says the Indianapolis Colts are the "only place he wanted to be"

Speaking to the media after he was selected in the draft, Leonard did not hide his happiness to remain in Indiana. Before his pick, the quarterback was already dressed in Colts merch.

“Every time Indiana comes on the screen, I’m crossing my fingers," Leonard said. "The only place I wanted to be was in Indianapolis. To hear my name called, it didn’t matter the round, I just wanted to be in the building with the guys.
"Throughout this whole process there was no place I’d rather be than back in Indiana. Even when I was at the combine in Indianapolis, it kind of just felt like home.”

Although the team has no starter established, Leonard isn't expected to compete for the starter spot, with the Colts still trying to develop 2023's first-round pick, Anthony Richardson, into their franchise quarterback, with Daniel Jones acting as a fallback option for the remainder of the season.
