The Washington Commanders have parted ways with quarterback Carson Wentz just one year after acquiring him from the Indianapolis Colts. It was a move that most NFL experts saw coming as Wentz has failed to live up to expectations for most of his career.

With Washington moving on from Wentz and his $20 million contract, the expectation is that sophomore Sam Howell will be their starting QB next season.

Commanders fans were not afraid to express their opinions about Wentz being cut on social media. One fan described it as $20 million down the drain.

"Two third round picks and over 20 mill down the drain."

Other NFL fans aren't too optimistic about Wentz's NFL future.

It appears that most Commanders fans are in agreement over Wentz. His days as a starting quarterback are likely over.

Teams looking for a quarterback either have a high draft pick or are interested in acquiring veterans like Jimmy Garoppolo or Derek Carr. This leaves Wentz on the outside looking in.

Wentz was on the verge of becoming a star with the Philadelphia Eagles before suffering an ACL injury. He is now destined to be a back-up quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Will Carson Wentz get another starting opportunity?

The obvious answer to that question is "no." But we know how quickly things can change in the NFL. All it takes is a couple of major QB injuries for a team to take a chance on him. Right now, it's difficult to envision Carson Wentz as a starter in the NFL.

Teams have given up on Wentz in back-to-back offseasons. This suggests that Wentz's best days are behind him. Teams are looking for a "needle mover" at the quarterback position. Carson Wentz doesn't exactly fit that mold.

Still, being a backup QB in the NFL is respectable. But given that he was a first-round pick and had been a starter for the majority of his NFL career. It might take some time to adjust to the new role. Either way, Wentz still has a future in the league. But right now, it will be as a back-up and not a starter.

Wentz has amassed 2056 pass completions, 22,219 passing yards, 151 touchdowns and 66 interceptions over seven seasons. He won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2016, and was a Pro Bowler in 2017. Since then, his career has gone downhill.
