On Saturday, the New England Patriots dismal campaign worsened as the Los Angeles Chargers rolled into Gillette Stadium and thrashed the home team 40-7. The visitors needed a win to secure their playoff berth and made light work of the Patriots, who have now lost six in a row.
The Chargers got off to a splendid start and took a 17-0 lead in the first half before the Patriots gave the fans a glimmer of hope with a touchdown. However, after New England's only scoring drive, LA made them work for every yard and wore their defense down on the ground and through the air to register a comfortable win.
Patriots fans in the stands were in disbelief about their team's disheartening performance and directed their frustration toward head coach Jerod Mayo, demanding he be fired.

Fans on social media were in agreement with those inside the stadium and demanded Mayo be relieved of his duties.
Some fans wondered if the 'fire Mayo' chants were loud enough for Patriots owner Robert Kraft to hear:
"They should play that over the PA System to make sure Kraft hears it," @DeadmanBostonB said.
"Loud enough for the Krafts to hear?" @mikey_flynn asked.
"Louder for those two suited fellas in the executive suite!" @B1Gwheat wrote.
Will the Patriots fire Jerod Mayo in the offseason?
Last week, NFL insider Ian Rapoport claimed that the Patriots were keen on retaining Jerod Mayo's services for the 2025 season. However, the only caveat was the team would have to avoid a calamitous finish to the campaign.
They fared well in their first game after Rapoport's report. They lost 24-21 to the Buffalo Bills, a game they could have won on another day. However, the 40-7 loss to the Chargers has put Mayo's future in the spotlight.
It's the "calamitous" result that the Patriots' top brass didn't want to see. The team has one more game left on its schedule — a home game against arch-rivals Buffalo Bills.
If New England suffers another blowout loss, owner Robert Kraft, president Jonathan Kraft, and the team's top brass will have no choice but to consider the fans' suggestions and mull whether Mayo is the right man to lead the team in 2025.
