Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins are 5-7 and their playoff hopes aren't completely out of the question, but not favorable. On Wednesday, Tagovailoa spoke to reporters as part of his weekly media availability and shouldered the blame for the Dolphins' lackluster performance this season.
Tagovailoa said their record doesn't truly show who they are as a team. He also acknowledged that suffering a concussion and not playing hindered his team's ability to win. His comments circulated on X and fans were quick to give their take. While some are upset with the Miami Dolphins' disappointing season, they appreciated him taking accountability.

One fan jokingly suggested that the Dolphins should practice in cold weather as it has become the team's kryptonite. On Thanksgiving, the Dolphins lost 30-17 to the Green Bay Packers, but some fans continued to show support for the quarterback's comments.
"I think next season they should practice in cold weather that way they can focus on winning, " one fan said.
"It shows his character," a fan wrote.
"He’s not wrong, " another fan said.
Fans' sentiments over the losing season continued, but some said that Tagovailoa had all of the characteristics of a franchise QB and a leader for the Miami Dolphins.
"This is exactly what you want from a Franchise QB and leader. It was is fault and he knows this," a fan wrote.
"This is why I love this dude as QB of the Fins," another fan wrote.
"Is Tua flawed? Absolutely. But this right here showed me 2 qualities Tua has that ARod doesn't (one more so than the other): ACCOUNTABILITY & LEADERSHIP. Tua getting hurt wrecked our szn. Hopefully he learns from it," one fan said.
What did Tua Tagovailoa say about his role in Dolphins 5-7 record?
Tua Tagovailoa had high hopes for his Miami Dolphins entering this season. However, Miami is under .500, which is a surprise to him.
Tagovailoa said that his absence due to a concussion earlier in the season cost his team. He added that he doesn't want to put himself in a position where he gets hurt again and knows he needs to do better.
"I don't think that shows the character of who we are as a team, doesn't show the work that we've put in this offseason together," Tagovailoa said.
"But, you know, nobody else will say it but me. And I feel like this has a lot to do with myself, obviously, putting myself in harm's way in the second game going down, basically leaving my guys out to dry. That's what I would say. And anyone can have an opinion about like, it's football, it's this, it's that. I don't want to do that to my guys again."
Miami is ninth in the AFC playoff seeding. The Dolphins, led by Mike McDaniel, could still mathematically make the playoffs if they win their remaining five games.
While it will be hard, it is possible as they have the fourth easiest schedule in the remaining weeks of the 2024 NFL season.
