The Raiders are one of the teams looking for a head coach in the offseason and they decided to interview Ron Rivera for the job. The former Commanders and Panthers coach has been out of work for the past year since losing his position at Washington but Las Vegas could not be a possibility for him to make it back into the league.
However, some fans are not convinced that the Raiders plan to hire Ron Rivera. Names like Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson have been linked to the vacancy and some analysts have said that Las Vegas also fired their general manager because they want to give him more leeway in decision-making.
Observers made up a variety of reasons for why they think this would be a bad hire, including some pointing out that this could simply be a ploy to meet the Rooney Rule, which mandates that teams have interviews with at least two minority candidates before finalizing their pick. Here are some of the reactions from X/Twitter.

Fans continued to pile on with many saying that the Raiders were aiming for mediocrity with this pick if they chose to go ahead. Here are some more comments from the social media platform.
"I can't take your franchise seriously if you're interviewing Ron Rivera for HC... He's not a good HC, below avg for sure!.. It's not a surprise that 2 of the top 5 dumpster fire teams, the Raiders & Jets, interviewed this guy... what are the chances that either lands a winner!" - fumed one.
"Please don’t Hire failed Head coaches !, Like Vance Joseph, or Ron Rivera,or Robert Saleh !! Get someone who hasn’t been fired cause they didn’t win ! That’s the definition of insanity! Same thing over & over & Expecting different results!!" - implored another.
"LOL. "River-boat" Ron would be a terrible choice... It scares me the Raiders are wasting time interviewing some candidates that wouldn't be good choices (Rivera, Joseph, the Chief DC, Saleh). Do they secretly know they aren't getting Johnson... Why aren't they interviewing Liam Coen? Did he tell them no?.. And please NO 74 yr old by the time the season starts Carroll...." - added a third.
Raiders not the only ones checking out Ron Rivera
The Raiders are neither the only team with a head coaching vacancy nor the only team that has interviewed Ron Rivera. The Bears have done so too and there is a history there that Las Vegas cannot replicate.
Chicago drafted the former linebacker and he played his entire career there, also winning a Super Bowl with the team. He also began his coaching career as a Defensive Quality Control coach with the Bears. If the franchise were to hire him, it would mark a full-circle moment for him.
