On Thursday, the Washington Commanders made a surprising move by trading wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles. Could they have done so with the intention of a last-minute push to acquire San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk? Some fans on social media think so.

Upon learning that Washington sent one of their top receivers to a division rival in return for some draft picks (2025 third-round picks and two seventh-round picks), some fans think Washington stocked up on more draft picks to acquire Aiyuk, whose contract situation still isn't figured out.

"The Washington Commanders now have additional trade ammo and an opening at the WR2 spot...Could the Commanders get involved in the Brandon Aiyuk conversation for a reunion with Jayden Daniels?" one fan quesitoned.
"This is the move. It's so obvious that you need to pair up Mclaurin and Aiyuk with eckler and Daniels. That's a powerful offense," one fan said.

"Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe they can trade their 2nd, both 3rds and maybe Cole Turner for Aiyuk and maybe Cowing or a 5th and 6th," one fan proposed.

While some fans believe Washington would try to get Aiyuk with their wealth of draft picks after dealing Jahan Dotson, others are less optimistic. Some believe the Commanders haven't been interested in Aiyuk for a while.

Other fans pointed out that Aiyuk has leverage over where he wants to get traded, and he could negate a trade offer if he wanted.

Here's how other fans reacted:

"They literally haven’t been interested in Aiyuk at any point in time, so how could a 3rd be a sweetener for an offer that’s never existed in the first place?" one fan questioned.
"Commanders had ZERO interest in trading for Aiyuk," one fan said.
"Lol, I'm surprised we're still talking about an Aiyuk trade," a fan wrote.

Jahan Dotson being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles was a little bit of a surprise. Dotson had two quality seasons in his first two years with Washington.

While he was selected as a first-round pick in 2022 by Washington, Dotson has failed to surpass 50 receptions and over 550 receiving yards in his first two seasons.

NFL insider Albert Breer tweeted that Dotson didn't have a role in Kliff Kingsbury's offense, prompting a trade.

Dotson joins an Eagles offense that has a stacked wide receiver core. He will likely be the Eagles' third wide receiver behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who are two of the top-10 highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

By adding Jahan Dotson, the Eagles gave quarterback Jalen Hurts another target on the offense.
