NFL fans stir as Ravens scoop up Tyler Huntley after Browns cut ties: "Cleveland's continued mismanagement" - Source: Imagn

Earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns surprisingly picked four quarterbacks in the 53-man roster for the 2024 NFL season with the view of trading one of the three backups to get some draft capital. However, trade talks went nowhere.

On Thursday, they released quarterback Tyler Huntley, who started their final preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks and threw three touchdown passes.

The Browns' divisional rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, wasted no time and welcomed back the 26-year-old to the team. He had previously spent four seasons in Baltimore from 2020 to 2023 and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2022.

While fans on social media lauded the Ravens for moving swiftly and upgrading their quarterback room, they also criticized Cleveland for its bizarre decision to keep four signal-callers on the roster. Here are some comments:

"This point more to Cleveland's continued mismanagement. They thought they could hold on to four quarterbacks and hold them hostage to other teams who needed them until the other teams went elsewhere or didn't bite and called their bluff"
"they really cut their best QB"
"Our front office is extremely savvy when it comes to numbers and cap space etc. football logic however leaves a lot of confusion and they are definitely lacking," one Browns fan lamented.

Fans weren't too pleased about the front office keeping Huntley around long enough to let him learn the team's playbook before cutting him and letting him walk to a divisional rival:

"Let all those fan boys for Andrew Berry try to explain this one away." - Said @Detail_CLE
"Tyler Huntley, a loyal Raven who spent all offseason learning the Browns offense is now back on the Ravens" - @GarrettSprints remarked
"Can't say I love Tyler Huntley signing with Baltimore and taking secrets of the Browns new offense with him." - @NickWilsonSays wrote

Cleveland filled Huntley's spot with running back D'Onta Foreman, suggesting it is content with its quarterback trio.

Browns QB depth chart: All eyes on Deshaun Watson

After Huntley's release, the quarterback room currently consists of starter Deshaun Watson, veteran backup Jameis Winston, and sophomore third-stringer Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who started three games last season.

Cleveland will hope it won't have to call upon its backup at any point as it has had to over the last two campaigns. The franchise is yet to play an entire season with Watson under center.

He was suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 season and featured in only six outings. By the time he returned, the team was all but out of playoff contention. Last year, Cleveland started 5-1 with Watson under center, but a season-ending right shoulder injury to the quarterback in Week 6 derailed their entire campaign.

The Browns are hoping that the three-time Pro Bowler can remain healthy for all 17 games and help the franchise embark on a deep playoff run.
