When the NFL put the 49ers against the Rams on Thursday Night Football, they must have hoped that fans would be treated to an offensive show. Brock Purdy and Matthew Stafford are both accomplished quarterbacks and these two teams made the playoffs last year. The plan looked to have worked after the two franchises combined for more than 80 points against their opponents last week.
However, the first half turned out to be a damp squib. It was quite literally the case as rain fell incessantly over the first two quarters. Neither quarterback could get into any rhythm and had completion percentages below 50. Receivers dropped catchable balls too as the rock became more difficult to handle.
The six points in the first half were the worst for a Rams-49ers game in 15 years, as revealed on the broadcast. The 11 punts that the two teams combined for were also the most in the first two quarters this season. Fans were less than thrilled with what they were watching and took to X/Twitter to voice their frustrations.

There were some sarcastic remarks too as observers tried to make light amidst a first half where defenses were clearly on top.
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
"Wow what an exciting game," one fan said.
"Not at all boring," another fan noted.
"Hmm, thought it would be closer than this!" a fan commented.
Rams-49ers halftime 'Corgi Cup' steals the show
The Rams and 49ers played out a boring first half. The visiting team had a total of 23 passing yards in the opening two quarters. To put that into perspective, the fans saw corgis line up and race at halftime, and the dogs outgained the two teams. It was the most action that those in the stadium got to see.
The good news was that the rain slowed down during the break. This raised the prospect of a more expansive second half as we all know these teams are capable of playing. The Bills conceded 44 points against the Rams last week and the Bears shipped 38 against the 49ers.
Both Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan emphasized the need to establish a running game and gave credit to the other team's defense before the second half kicked off. Now, it was up to the players to take their coaches' words and turn them into action, for their own benefit and that of the fans.
