Aaron Rodgers was supposed to lead the franchise when he was traded to the New York Jets in the biggest player transaction of the 2023 offseason. He was expected to be someone who would return the long-struggling franchise to Super Bowl contention.
However, he tore his ACL on just his fourth snap with the team, ending his debut early.
Instead of being the Jets' savior, Rodgers has arguably been their biggest curse, playing very poorly often, like on Sunday, when he had a paltry 151 yards from 22 completions in a disappointing 6-31 loss at the resurgent Arizona Cardinals.
This has caused fans to demand his retirement from the sport:

"Aaron Rodgers gotta retire. He’s the biggest liability for the jets."
More of the sentiment can be seen below:
"The look in Aaron Rodgers eyes wishes he chose to retire when he left the Packers," one wondered.
"I now see why some all time greats retire in their prime," another realized.
"Aaron Rodgers it’s over man," another begged.
Cardinals' defense fulfills promise to shut down Aaron Rodgers
While most of Monday's storylines from the Jets-Cardinals game will be about the downfall of Aaron Rodgers, credit should be given to the Arizona defense. In addition to shutting down his playmakers, Davante Adams, Garrett Wilson, and Allen Lazard, they also sacked him thrice.
Before the game, head coach Jonathan Gannon and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis knew what to expect when facing the multiple-time MVP. Rallis said:
"He's still a very elite player. We had an exotic look, unscouted, and his ability to change the protections and get it exactly picked up and deliver a pass. You're not going to be able to get over on this guy with something new. His brain is powerful."
Gannon added:
"He's a savant. We just have to play good, clean ball. It's about us. It's about what he likes to do versus certain things. We've got to make sure that we win a good amount of those one-on-ones."
Linebacker Mack Wilson, who was just seven years old when Rodgers made his NFL debut, reflected on the buildup to playing him for just the second time ever:
"It's crazy to see, honestly... I was talking about it to some of the guys that (Rodgers) presence alone has a lot of aura to it. When you talk about quarterbacks having aura, he's one of the guys that's up there."
The Cardinals' and Jets' respective next opponents will be the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
