NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio believes former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will never get another opportunity to play in the NFL.
Florio stated that the NFL has successfully colluded against the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback for long enough:
“I just think that the ship has sailed. And the ship has sailed for one very simple reason. The league successfully colluded against Colin Kaepernick long enough. You say, ‘Five years. It's too long. You can't play.’

"And I've told Simms this in the past. At some point, you successfully keep him out for so long, that the mere passage of time that you've kept him out becomes the primary argument to not give him an argument, or not give an opportunity, excuse me, even though it was wrong to get to this point. It was wrong to freeze him out in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021. It was wrong. It was wrong. It was wrong. It was wrong. It was wrong. But who's gonna give him a chance now? And look, he should have had, at least, a workout with a team at some point in the last five years.”
Florio concluded his statement by asserting that, despite being in the best shape of his life, the quarterback will not be playing in the league anytime soon:
“But regardless of what he tweets, regardless of what Schefty reports, best shape of his life doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. It never happened in those five years. And it's not happening now. Seattle's the only team that brought him in for a visit in 2017. And I think they were concerned that, if they had him on the team, that would undermine Russell Wilson, and there would have been some guys in the locker room that would have rallied around Colin Kaepernick. They didn't want that. Well, now they got an opening, but I'll be stunned. I'll be stunned. I think that ship has fully and finally sailed, and no amount of workout videos, and no amount of reports, and no amount of anything is going to change it at this point.”
Colin Kaepernick and his NFL career
Kaepernick was a second-round pick of the 49ers in the 2011 NFL Draft and started 58 games for the team in his six-year NFL career. The quarterback led San Francisco to Super Bowl 47 versus the Baltimore Ravens, but his team came up short with a final score of 34 – 31. The former Nevada Wolfpack signal-caller went 16 of 28 for 302 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 62 yards and ran for a touchdown.
In the 69 games Kaepernick has played, he threw for 12,271 yards, 72 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. On the ground, he ran for 2,300 yards and 13 touchdowns. His last game in the league was a 25 – 23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 of the 2016 season.
Since then, the 34-year-old hasn’t been in the league. Will we ever see him step on the field again? Only time will tell.
