The Dallas Cowboys were advised to try to bring an unemployed coach to the new coaching staff. In a dramatic turn of events for the Houston Texans, the team fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik after a tumultuous season full of injuries and inconsistency for the Texan franchise.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared the news on Friday, adding that offensive line coach Chris Strausser was also fired by head coach DeMeco Ryans.

In the middle of this, NFL insider Jorie Epstein saw the new development as an opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys, suggesting that they should go after Slowik to become their next offensive coordinator.

"If I’m Cowboys, I’m trying to get him in building on Schotty’s staff," Epstein wrote.

After firing Mike McCarthy at the end of the 2024 NFL season, Dallas was linked with several head-coaching candidates, including former All-Pro tight end Jason Witten and two-time Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders.

In the end, they decided to go with Brian Schottenheimer, a coach who was already on the staff during McCarthy's era. It's time to find the best options to build his coaching staff and see how far they can go next year.

The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing season with only seven wins but without a healthy Dak Prescott. Even so, Jerry Jones decided it was time to part ways with McCarthy.

Skip Bayless blasts Jerry Jones over new Cowboys HC

Some might think that after seeing the Lone Star secure their guy, complaints would stop, but it was the complete opposite. Even Skip Bayless called out Jerry Jones for picking Schottenheimer as the next head coach on his "The Skip Bayless Show".

"Jerry Jones is slick. He knows how to play that PR game," Bayless said. "So now he has leaked word that he talked to Pete Carroll. Didn't bring him in for an interview.
"He talked to Pete Carroll just so he could tell everybody after he hires Brian Schottenheimer, well, 'I did talk to old Pete, but we didn't really come to any sort of conclusion about anything.' Stop it. Jerry, I've heard enough."

Dallas hasn't won a Super Bowl in 30 years and the constant disappointments in the postseason have rubbed fans the wrong way. This promotion wasn't met with good eyes, but Bayless thinks that was exactly what the Cowboys needed.

The head-coaching position was only the beginning, as they have more issues to address this offseason.
