A lot of eyes will be on the Houston Texans in 2024 with the franchise handing sophomore quarterback CJ Stroud even more weapons to work with this year. Stroud's stats made for impressive reading in a historic rookie season as he threw for 4,180 yards and 23 touchdowns. Those numbers were more than enough for Stroud to be crowned 2023's Rookie of the Year.
The Texans took the obvious route and doubled down on Stroud's talents (and the many benefits of his rookie contract) to bring Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon to town. With Diggs on board, the Texans' depth chart could prove to be the envy of many a coach this season.
Early signs are also pretty promising on this new-look Texans unit. The Athletic NFL insider Dianna Russini talked the state of affairs at Texans training camp this week on her new podcast, Scoop City. The insider served a warning to the rest of the NFL, saying:
“Stefon Diggs and CJ Stroud are going to be a problem in this league."

"Change is good, especially for a player like [Stefon Diggs] who wants to be the best at what he does. I just found him to be happier than I’ve ever seen him – and I’ve covered him since he was at Maryland – rejuvenated and leaning into this role of being the guy in the room and helping guide these receivers who look to him,” Russini added.
What Texans' WR depth looks like with Stefon Diggs in town
Tank Dell, Nico Collins and Noah Brown more than held their own in 2023, but Diggs' addition will no doubt supercharge this offense. Joe Mixon's addition was also an under-the-radar pick in free agency after Devin Singletary left for the New York Giants to fill their Saquon Barkley-shaped hole.
And don't forget edge rusher Danielle Hunter, who signed a two-year, $49 million deal with the franchise.
A 10-win season was a pretty good start to CJ Stroud's career. If everything goes to plan, the Texans will not just take the AFC South but pose a very real threat to their fellow AFC contenders in the playoffs. Based on over 100,000 simulations, our analyzer puts the Texans' playoff chances at a healthy 71 percent.
