Dak Prescott has managed to earn two breakout deals with the Dallas Cowboys since proving his worth in the 2010s. As much as owner Jerry Jones dragged his feet in negotiations, he ultimately surrendered massive amounts of money. Now, another budding star could pose the Cowboys' general manager problems, courtesy of his agent shared with Prescott.

NFL insider Ed Werder took to X on Sunday and braced for another big-time contract negotiation for Jones to sift through.

"Biggest question of Cowboys offseason once Jerry Jones decides fate of Mike McCarthy: how much money has the owner saved to allocate to Brandon Aubrey, who has just set the NFL record for most 50+ field goals in a season. His agent is Todd France. His other Cowboys client: Dak Prescott," Werder tweeted.

When the Cowboys moved on from Brett Maher after the 2022 season, fans and analysts condemned the decision. However, the move was a success. According to Pro Football Reference, Maher converted 79.6% of his field goal attempts while Aubrey has made 90.0%.

The Dallas Cowboys kicker is performing at a level as good as any kicker in the NFL. While this is good news for Jerry Jones, it is likely bad news for his bottom line in the future.

Based on his contract, there's time for Jones to kick the can down the road. As 2024 wraps up, the kicker is heading into the final year of his deal. Jones could wait another 12 months before something must be done to keep him around.

Brandon Aubrey has leverage on his side as many teams struggle to find franchise kickers. However, Jones also has reason to believe that he can pluck another quality kicker out of essentially thin air, considering he found Aubrey.

In the grand scheme of things, kickers rarely soak up a problematic amount of money from the salary cap. Per BetMGM, Harrison Butker has the highest salary in the league, earning $6.4 million. If Aubrey wants to meet that number, it most likely would fall short of what a quality free agent would cost at every other position.

Still, a high price tag for him and overpaying another player could add up to a salary cap hit that keeps Jones from getting an additional player.

It all depends on how Jones would like to handle things going forward and how long he can delay handing over the contract.
